Tree Talks
November 16 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
FreeCelebrate the Schuylkill Center’s new arboretum with an incredible demonstration by Philadelphia’s famous international wood-carver Roger Wing. Taking a holistic and environmental approach to working with wood, Roger Wing has traveled the world, showing his craft in competition and exhibition, bringing his love of the wild and natural medium of native trees with him. During this event Roger will give a live demonstration while discussing the how-to and the why of working with wood.
More on Roger Wing:
Wing began to consider himself a sculptor when he was introduced to the practice of wood carving during university in 1988. This discovery connected his lifelong love of art with a material and a process that would become the primary occupation of his life. In fact, several lifetimes would not be enough to fully explore the medium. Subtractive carving is challenging. Although other approaches to sculpture, such as modeling clay, and casting and fabricating metal, have expanded Wing’s knowledge of techniques and tools, it is carving wood that still claims the greatest hold on his heart.
This event has a suggested donation of $10.
