Winterfest for Wildlife

This February we are celebrating wildlife at the Schuylkill Center. This month-long initiative will feature many ways you can help wildlife in Philadelphia including ways to donate, volunteer opportunities, and events that highlight how the Schuylkill Center protects wildlife and educates the public.

Winterfest is a chance for us to show our support for the Wildlife Clinic in anticipation of the busy spring baby season. The Wildlife Clinic at the Schuylkill Center has been in operation since August 1987 and is currently the only licensed wildlife rehabilitation clinic in Philadelphia. The clinic has treated close to 100,000 animals over our 38-year history. In 2024, we provided care to more than 3,200 sick, injured, and orphaned animals across 136 individual species from Philadelphia and the surrounding region.

The Schuylkill Center is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that depends on private donations. Because we are not a city, state, or federal park, we are not supported by any tax revenue. Thanks to our community of supporters, we are able to continue the work we do to provide high-quality care to wildlife. This year, we’ve set a goal to raise $10,000 for the Wildlife Clinic. We need your help to share our story, volunteer, and celebrate with us at one of our events. Keep scrolling to learn more about the ways you can help.

Toad Detour

Toad Detour protects the local toad population as they migrate to and from their breeding grounds each spring. When the toads emerge in the early spring, hundreds of them cross nearby roads to mate in the Roxborough Reservoir or the Schuylkill Center’s ponds. On select nights, when the conditions are just right, Toad Detour volunteers erect barricades and help divert traffic during busy toad crossing evenings.
